Reverse description Central device features the royal arms of France — a shield semé of fleurs-de-lis — surmounted by a closed royal crown of elaborate form. Flanking the shield on either side are the Roman numerals II·II, denoting the denomination of one quarter écu. The surrounding circumferential legend, separated by a beaded border, reads HENRICVS·IIII·D·G·FRANC·ET·NAVA·REX·R, identifying Henry IV by the grace of God King of France and Navarre, with the mint mark R for Villeneuve-lès-Avignon positioned at the close of the legend.
