| Obverse description | Bare-headed right-facing bust of Princess Victoria Kaʻiulani, heir apparent to the Hawaiian throne, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair swept up and curled at the crown. The effigy occupies the central field in a classical portraiture style. The circumferential legend reads •PRINCESS VICTORIA•KAIULANI•HEIR APPARENT 1891• along the upper border, with HAWAII appearing below the bust and the issue year 1996 to the left of the portrait. The mintmark RHM (Royal Hawaiian Mint) appears in small letters beneath HAWAII, and the entire design is framed by a beaded inner border. |
