Obverse description Central field dominated by the elaborate calligraphic tughra of Sultan Mahmud II, rendered in intricate Ottoman style with characteristic upswept strokes and intertwining loops. The tughra is set within a plain inner border, itself enclosed by an ornate floral and arabesque wreath border encircling the entire design. The milled edge of the coin is visible at the periphery. The overall design reflects the refined Ottoman gold coinage aesthetic of the early Tanzimat era. Note: coin weight varies between 0.38 and 0.40 grams.
