Obverse description Central field bears the elaborate tughra (imperial monogram) of Sultan Mahmud II, rendered in ornate calligraphic style with characteristic upward projecting shafts and interlocking loops. The tughra is set within a plain inner border and surrounded by a decorative foliate and arabesque wreath that encircles the entire design. The coin's milled edge is visible at the periphery. Weight varies between 0.38 and 0.40 grams across the series.
