Obverse description The obverse field is entirely occupied by the Shi'ia Kalima (Islamic profession of faith in its Twelver Shi'a form), rendered in bold, deeply struck nasta'liq-style Arabic calligraphy. The inscription reads: 'There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God, Ali is the Friend of God,' filling the flan in multiple registers without a border legend. The script is vigorously executed, characteristic of early Safavid hammered gold coinage, with overlapping letter forms owing to the small flan size. No figural imagery or decorative border is present.
