| Obverse description | Central field displays the Portuguese royal arms, featuring a crowned shield bearing the five quinas (escutcheons) of Portugal within a pointed Gothic-style border, characteristic of the hammered coinage issued under Queen Maria I. The shield is rendered in a somewhat crude, provincial style consistent with the Diu mint's output. A partial legend reading 'D-O' appears in the field flanking the shield. The overall design is contained within an irregular, flan-shaped border typical of hammered copper issues of Portuguese India. |

| Reverse description | The reverse features a cross pattée at centre, with a pellet or globule at the end of each arm, set within a beaded or toothed inner border that encircles the design. The date elements appear in the quarters formed by the cross arms, reading '1-7' and '8-8' corresponding to the year of issue. The field beyond the inner border is plain, and the overall style is consistent with the primitive hammered coinage of the Diu mint under Portuguese colonial administration. |
