Aversbeschreibung Left-facing diademed and draped bust of Queen Victoria, wearing a small crown atop a veiled coiffure with a floral ornament, a necklace visible at the truncation. The effigy is rendered in the standard Victorian imperial portrait style as used on Indian colonial coinage. The legend VICTORIA arcs along the left rim and EMPRESS along the right rim in raised Latin capital letters. The coin is bordered by a fine milled edge with beading.

Reversbeschreibung Central field features a raised inscription in four lines reading ONE / QUARTER / ANNA / INDIA, with the date 1895 below, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The word BIKANIR arcs along the upper rim and STATE along the lower rim in widely spaced raised Latin capital letters. Two small decorative devices flank the beaded circle at the three and nine o'clock positions. The overall design is plain and typographic, characteristic of Indian princely state coinage of the late Victorian period.

Zusätzliche Informationen

Bikaner's coinage in the 1890s was produced under the authority of Dungar Singh, who maintained a degree of administrative autonomy that allowed the princely state to issue its own copper for local circulation well into the British Raj period. The quarter anna denominations of this era circulated primarily in bazaar trade, where British Imperial coinage was often in short supply or actively hoarded.

KM#71 is among the more consistently encountered Bikaner types, but survivors in unworn condition are less common than raw numbers suggest — the copper alloy used by smaller Rajputana mints was frequently inconsistent, leading to porous surfaces that accelerated wear.
