Obverse description Left-facing crowned effigy of King George V, rendered in high relief with fine detail to the Imperial State Crown, beard, and robed bust truncation. The king is depicted wearing robes of state with ornate collar visible at the neck. The circular Latin legend GEORGE V KING EMPEROR runs along the periphery, flanked by a toothed or beaded inner rim. The portrait was engraved by Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennal and is characteristic of the first coinage type used throughout the reign for Indian issues.
