Obverse description Central field features the Arabic inscription of the ruler's name and titles within a beaded or rope-bordered circular frame. An outer legend in both Arabic and Latin scripts encircles the design, identifying the issuer and denomination. The denomination '1/4 ANNA' appears in Latin script as a single line within the design. The overall layout is characteristic of the coinage produced for Muscat and Oman under Sultan Faisal bin Turki, rendered in a straightforward typographic style without a portrait effigy.

Additional information

Muscat and Oman operated without a functioning mint of its own, and coinage was struck abroad on contract — this issue almost certainly produced at the Bombay or Calcutta mint under British Indian oversight, reflecting the sultanate's deep commercial entanglement with British India. Faisal bin Turki ruled under considerable British pressure following the 1891 agreement that prohibited him from ceding territory without British consent, a constraint that shaped nearly every administrative decision of his reign. The KM#10.2 designation distinguishes this from the earlier 10.1 variety by the legend layout on the value side.
