Edward VIII's abdication in December 1936 created an administrative anomaly across British India: coins struck in his name during that single year were legal and legitimate, but his reign lasted only 325 days. Jodhpur's issue under Maharaja Umaid Singh is among the few princely state coinages to carry Edward VIII's regnal authority, making the 1936 date unusually significant — not for rarity alone, but because no subsequent year was possible.
