| Obverse description | Central field features the interlaced royal cypher 'GR' (Georgius Rex) in large cursive script, surmounted by a St. Edward's Crown with fleurs-de-lis and crosses pattée. The date 1796 is divided by the crown at the upper periphery, with '17' to the left and '96' to the right. The entire device is encircled by a delicate olive or laurel wreath tied with a ribbon bow at the base. The rim is defined by a uniform border of raised beads throughout. |

| Reverse description | The reverse displays the armorial shield of the Company of Merchants Trading to Africa, divided horizontally: the upper half bears a cornucopia and stars on a horizontally lined field, while the lower half depicts a fully-rigged sailing ship flying the Union flag upon a sea. The crest above the shield is an elephant passant supporting a castle tower with a flagstaff. Flanking the shield are decorative mantling with floral sprigs. The circular legend reads 'FREE TRADE TO AFRICA. BY ACT. OF PARLIAMENT. 1750.' disposed around the full periphery, with a beaded border. |
