Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing bust of King Oscar I of Sweden occupies the central field, rendered in high relief with fine portrait detail depicting the king's characteristic features and neatly dressed hair. The truncation of the bust is plain and unadorned. A continuous circular legend surrounds the effigy, reading OSCAR SVERIGES NORR.G.O.V.KONUNG., identifying the monarch as King of Sweden, Norway, the Goths and the Wends. The legend is set in Roman capital letters within a beaded border that frames the entire design. The overall style reflects the refined neoclassical portraiture typical of mid-nineteenth century Scandinavian coinage.
