Additional information

Rajendra I expanded the Chola empire further than any predecessor, launching naval campaigns that reached the Malay Peninsula and the Srivijaya kingdom between 1025 and 1030 — the longest-range offensive operation mounted by any South Asian polity of the medieval period. Coinage from his reign circulated across maritime trade routes well beyond the subcontinent.

The dual obverse format on this fraction is a known production anomaly within the kahavanu series, resulting from a misaligned or substituted die pairing rather than intentional design. HCSEA#715 documents it as a distinct variety.
