| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, as sculpted by Raphael David Maklouf, occupying the central field. The legend ELIZABETH II appears to the left, GIBRALTAR to the right, and the date 1998 is inscribed below, with the engraver's initials RDM and the Pobjoy Mint mark PM also present. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field, consistent with the third definitive effigy used on Commonwealth coinage from 1985. A finely reeded border frames the design. |
