| Obverse description | This innovative bi-denomination obverse features a large mirror-polished field bearing the fourth portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley at the upper centre, facing right, diademed and draped, with the legend ELIZABETH II to the left and AUSTRALIA to the right arranged around the beaded inner border. The denomination ONE DOLLAR is inscribed along the lower arc. At centre, an inset coin design replicates the obverse of a standard Australian 25-cent piece, depicting a smaller Rank-Broadley effigy of Elizabeth II within its own beaded border, with the legends ELIZABETH II and AUSTRALIA arcing above and the denomination 25 CENTS below, the engraver's initials IRB visible beneath the bust on both effigies. |
