| Beschrijving voorzijde | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem, a pearl necklace, and earrings, as modelled by Raphael Maklouf. The queen's draped bust is rendered in high relief against a polished field. The legend ELIZABETH arcs along the left rim, ISLE OF MAN along the right, and the date 1996 appears at the lower right, separated by a raised dot. The mintmark and engraver's initials appear below the truncation. |

The Isle of Man's cat crown series, launched in 1988, became one of the more commercially successful bullion programs of its era precisely because it changed designs annually — a deliberate marketing decision by the Pobjoy Mint that drove collector demand beyond typical bullion buying patterns. The Burmese was featured across multiple years in the series, making cross-year variety collecting a secondary market in itself.
At 1/25 oz platinum, this denomination was aimed squarely at entry-level precious metal collectors when platinum was trading at a premium over gold.
