NATO's 75th anniversary in 2024 fell in the same year the alliance admitted its 32nd member, Sweden, ending over two centuries of Swedish non-alignment. Gibraltar's interest in the commemoration is not incidental — the territory's strategic position at the mouth of the Mediterranean has made it a de facto NATO asset since the alliance's founding, even though Gibraltar itself holds no separate membership status.
