Wolfgang II ruled Barby at a moment when the county's minting rights were perpetually contested by the Electorate of Saxony, which claimed overlordship and periodically suppressed smaller Saxon circle coinages it deemed competitive. The 1/24 Thaler — the Groschen equivalent — was the workhorse denomination of the Kipperzeit's immediate prelude, and Wolfgang pushed production hard in 1611–1612 before his death in 1612 ended the Barby line entirely. The county passed to Saxony shortly after, making this one of the final issues of an extinct sovereignty.
