| Obverse description | Central device depicts the crowned lion of Hesse rampant to the left, rendered in high relief with fine engraving detail on the mane and body. The lion stands on a horizontal ground line below which runs a decorative wreath border along the lower rim. The field is otherwise unadorned, with no encircling legend on this face. The heraldic lion, a traditional emblem of the Landgraviate of Hesse, is shown with tail raised and one forepaw extended, conveying strength and authority. The overall style is consistent with late 18th-century German small coinage engraving. |
