| Obverse description | Central field displays a four-fold heraldic composition of the Electoral Saxon arms, with four shields arranged in cruciform pattern and divided by two crossed electoral swords. The mintmaster's initials IK appear in the lower field between the swords. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, bounded by a beaded inner border and a milled outer rim. |

John George IV ruled Saxony for just three years before dying of smallpox in 1694 — almost certainly contracted from his mistress Magdalena Sibylla of Neidschutz, who had died of the same disease weeks earlier. His brief reign was administratively thin, and the small-denomination coinage issued under his name reflects the fragmented monetary geography of the Holy Roman Empire, where the Thaler and its fractions circulated alongside dozens of competing regional issues.
