Obverse description Ornate four-fold coat of arms with a central inescutcheon, surmounted by three crested helmets with elaborate mantling. The arms represent the territories of the Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp duchy. A circular Latin legend surrounds the shield, bearing the abbreviated titles and initials of Duke Johann Adolf. The overall design reflects the heraldic style typical of late sixteenth-century German princely coinage.
