Christian William of Brandenburg was appointed Administrator of Magdeburg in 1598 despite lacking holy orders — a purely political appointment brokered through Protestant electoral maneuvering. His tenure became increasingly volatile, culminating in his open military opposition to the Habsburgs during the Thirty Years' War, which ultimately cost him the administratorship. This 1615 issue predates that conflict by three years, struck while his position still carried legitimate administrative authority over one of the wealthiest ecclesiastical territories in northern Germany.
The 1⁄24 Thaler denomination corresponds to the Kipper und Wipper period's lead-up, when sub-Thaler fractions were seeing heavy production across Protestant territories.
