| Obverse description | Central field displays the Anhalt arms, a quartered shield bearing the bear passant of Anhalt, surrounded by a circular legend. The shield is rendered in a bold, somewhat crude hammered style typical of early seventeenth-century German small silver coinage. The peripheral legend reads PRI AN COM AS, an abbreviation for Principes Anhalti Comites Ascaniae, identifying the ruling princes. The flan is irregular and slightly clipped, characteristic of hammered emergency coinage of the Kipper und Wipper period. |
