Adolphus Frederick III ruled Mecklenburg-Strelitz for over four decades, but his duchy remained one of the smallest and most financially constrained of the German states — which explains why fractional silver of this type saw genuine hard circulation rather than cabinet storage. The 1/24 Thaler denomination was a workhorse of daily commerce in the mid-eighteenth century Holy Roman Empire, and Mecklenburg issues from this period are correspondingly difficult to find above Fine.
Kunzel's attribution at 566 A/b distinguishes this among at least two known die marriages for the type.
