August III ruled the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth as an absentee king, spending the bulk of his reign in Dresden and leaving monetary administration largely to his chief minister Heinrich von Brühl. The Lipsk (Leipzig) mint operated under Saxon authority during this period, striking Polish-denominated coinage on behalf of the Commonwealth — an arrangement that reflected the personal union between the Polish crown and the Electorate of Saxony rather than any integrated monetary policy.
