Augustus II struck these small silver grosz pieces during one of the most chaotic stretches of his reign — 1710 fell just after his restoration to the Polish throne following the defeat of Charles XII of Sweden at Poltava in 1709. Sweden had backed Stanisław Leszczyński as a rival king, and for several years Augustus had effectively lost Poland. The Leipzig mint, operating under Saxon auspices, was instrumentally tied to his broader financial recovery efforts in the region.
Kopicki 10689 places this among the lesser-documented fractions of the period, with surviving examples typically showing flat areas from worn dies — a consequence of the mint running high volumes on aging tooling.
