Comments

Bad Wildungen's 1923 Notgeld series was produced at the height of the Weimar hyperinflation, when German municipalities routinely commissioned local printers rather than waiting on an overwhelmed Reichsbank. Paul Pusch was a local firm — not an unusual choice for a spa town of this size, which had neither the budget nor the connections for a specialist printer.

The denomination in Buchenholz — beechwood — marks this as commodity-backed emergency scrip, a format that briefly flourished in timber-rich regions as paper currency lost all credibility. Whether any actual wood was ever exchanged against these notes is doubtful.
