Obverse description Saint Mark, the patron saint of Venice, depicted standing at left in episcopal robes, presenting a staff surmounted by a cross to the kneeling Doge Alvise Mocenigo IV at right. The word DVX appears vertically in the central field between the two figures, identifying the Doge's title. The composition follows the classic Venetian zecchino iconographic tradition, with both figures rendered in high relief against a plain field. The surrounding Latin legend identifies the Doge and the issuing authority of the Serenissima Republic.
