Reverse description Three interlaced, waved scrolls or banderoles occupying the central field, bearing the declaration legend reading RELIG·PROT·LEG·ANGL·LIBER·PAR· (Religion of the Protestants, the Laws of England, the Liberty of Parliament), a royalist propaganda motto adopted at Oxford. A crowned fleur-de-lis appears at the top of the design above the scrolls, and the date 1643 is displayed prominently at the base. The full outer legend reads ·EXVRGAT·DEVS·DISSIPENTVR·INIMICI· (Let God arise and His enemies be scattered), taken from Psalm 68, within a beaded border.
