| Reverse description | The reverse features the Portuguese Quinas cross — an elaborate cross pattée composed of five escutcheons — centered in the field, with the arms of the cross extending nearly to the inner beaded border. Five clusters of bezants (quinas) adorn the cross, faithful to the traditional Portuguese royal arms. Between the arms of the cross, four additional floral rosette ornaments fill the quarters. The surrounding circular Latin legend reads *.IN*HOC*SIGNO*VINCES., the Constantinian motto meaning 'In this sign thou shalt conquer,' separated by star and rosette stops. |
