| Obverse description | Central field bearing the Portuguese royal arms: five escutcheons arranged in a quincunx pattern, each charged with five bezants representing the five Moorish kings, the whole enclosed within a decorative bordure of castles. The shield is set within a beaded inner circle, surrounded by the partial circular legend. The design is characteristic of hammered Portuguese silver coinage of the period, with somewhat irregular strike and flan. |
