The lion supports with its forepaws an ornate heraldic shield bearing the arms of Strasbourg, flanked by elaborate foliate and cartouche mantling. A circular Latin legend runs along the upper periphery, reading MAIORVM LIBERTATI TVEND, referencing the defense of ancestral liberties. |
