Josef Wenzel I served as field marshal under Habsburg command and spent much of his tenure as reigning prince outside Liechtenstein entirely, directing Austrian artillery campaigns across Europe. The 1758 date places this coin squarely within the Seven Years' War, during which Josef Wenzel distinguished himself at the siege of Schweidnitz. Coins of his reign are scarce precisely because Liechtenstein's monetary output was never substantial — the principality's tiny size made large-scale minting economically pointless.
