Obverse description Two co-ruling dukes depicted as facing half-length busts in three-quarter view, both wearing armour with ruffled collars and electoral caps, set against a plain field. The figures are presented symmetrically, face-to-face, in the Renaissance portrait style typical of early seventeenth-century Saxon coinage. Small heraldic shields flank the busts on either side. A circular Latin legend runs along the inner border of the coin, reading IOHAN PHILIP E FRIDERI DEL GRA, identifying John Philip I and Frederick VIII as rulers by the grace of God. A beaded inner border separates the legend from the central design.
