| Beschrijving voorzijde | Half-length armored effigy of Duke John Ernest facing right, depicted in elaborately decorated plate armor with ornamental gorget and pauldrons, set within a beaded inner circle. A small imperial orb appears above the figure at the top of the inner circle. The duke bears a beard and wears period military dress rendered in fine relief. The encircling Latin legend runs along the outer rim between the beaded border and the coin's milled edge. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | A large, elaborate quartered coat of arms displaying the manifold heraldic claims of the Saxon ducal house, with the central escutcheon bearing the arms of ducal Saxony (barry with a crancelin). The shield is surmounted by six ornate plumed helms with their respective crests. The date and mintmaster's initials are divided on either side of the shield. A partial beaded inner circle frames the lower portion of the arms, with an additional devotional legend appearing within that arc. The outer legend continues the full titulature of the issuer around the rim. |
