| Reverse description | An armoured equestrian figure, representing the Elector or duke as knight, rides to the right at full gallop upon a caparisoned horse. The horse and rider occupy the central field, surrounded by a wreath-like inner circle enclosing multiple heraldic shields arranged around the perimeter, representing the various territories and claims of the ruling house of Saxe-Coburg-Eisenach. A continuous Latin legend citing the rulers' additional titles as Landgrave of Thuringia, Margrave of Meissen, and Count of the Mark and Ravensberg encircles the entire design within a beaded border. The reverse composition is consistent with the dynastic imagery employed on Ernestine Saxon coinage of the early seventeenth century. |
