Johann Christian and Georg Rudolf ruled Liegnitz-Brieg jointly following their father's death in 1602, a co-rulership arrangement that produced a distinct and relatively short-lived coinage series. The joint issues ceased after 1621 when the brothers formally partitioned their territories, making the window for these pieces narrower than the surviving examples might suggest.
1619 sits at the opening edge of the Thirty Years' War, which devastated Silesia repeatedly over the following decades. FuS 1533 places this half thaler within the Fürstlich Schlesische Münzgeschichte cataloguing framework established by Friedensburg and Seger.
