Johann Christian and Georg Rudolf were brothers ruling Liegnitz-Brieg jointly, a co-rulership arrangement common among Silesian Piast dukes but always administratively awkward. This issue falls precisely at the outbreak of the Thirty Years' War — the Bohemian revolt began in May 1618, and Silesia's Protestant estates were deeply entangled in the crisis from the start.
