Frederick II of Württemberg had been Duke, then Elector, and was elevated to King on January 1, 1806 — making 1805 the last year his coinage appeared under his pre-royal titles. Napoleon's reorganization of German territories through the Confederation of the Rhine drove that promotion, rewarding Frederick for dissolving the old imperial estates within his territory and aligning firmly with France. This half thaler sits at that precise political hinge point.
