附加信息

Ferdinand III inherited the Thirty Years' War from his father and spent virtually his entire reign trying to end it, finally achieving the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. The halfthalers struck across this period financed a Habsburg war machine that was, by the 1640s, largely dependent on Spanish subsidies and increasingly desperate credit arrangements with Viennese banking houses.

Herinek's broad reference range of 516–529 reflects genuine die proliferation — the Vienna mint was under sustained pressure to produce specie throughout the war years, and consistency of dies was a secondary concern to output volume.
