Obverse description Youthful, beardless draped bust of Ferdinand I facing left, crowned, depicted to half-length and holding a sceptre in the left hand, all within a beaded circle. The regal legend surrounding the effigy reads, commencing at 12 o'clock, an abbreviated Latin inscription for 'Ferdinandus Dei Gratia Romanorum Hungariae Bohemiae Dalmatiae Croatiae Rex'. The portrait reflects early Renaissance hammered coinage style characteristic of the Habsburg mints in the first half of the sixteenth century.
