| Obverse description | The entire obverse field is occupied by a ten-line Latin memorial inscription in raised relief lettering, reading MEM. FVNCHRIS. II. &RI. ARCHIM. EELDS. IV. CLE. MO. NT. PACI. F. BENEFI. NATI. XXIII. SEPT. M.DLXXXIII. DEN. ATI. XXIII. IVN. II. AN. M.DC. XI., recording the birth date of 23 September 1583 and the death date of 23 June 1611 of Elector Christian II of Saxony. The inscription is arranged in compact horizontal lines filling the entire coin face, with a plain beaded border encircling the field. The hammered technique imparts a characteristic uneven surface to the silver flan. The text serves as a funerary commemoration issued by his brothers John George I and August, Dukes of Saxony. |

| Reverse description | The reverse displays a six-line Latin epitaphic inscription in bold raised relief lettering filling the entire field: PRO FIDE, SVPRA FIDEM, DEO ET CAESARI, MORS RAPVIT, NON DEFICIT, ALTER., meaning 'For faith beyond faith, death snatched him from God and Emperor, yet another does not fail.' The legend eulogises the virtue and loyalty of the deceased Elector Christian II of Saxony. The inscription is arranged in evenly spaced horizontal lines, framed by a plain beaded border. The hammered silver flan exhibits a slightly uneven surface consistent with early seventeenth-century Saxon coinage production. The terse, elegiac phrasing is characteristic of Saxon memorial half-thalers of this period. |
