Reverse description The Bavarian arms — a quartered shield combining the lozengy field of Bavaria and the lion of the Palatinate, with a small orb at the base of the escutcheon — are displayed at center, encircled by an ornate wreath of palm and laurel branches tied with a ribbon bow at the foot. The entire composition is surmounted by a large Electoral crown rendered in bold relief. The date 1789 appears in the lower field beneath the wreath, flanked by small decorative stops. The encircling Latin legend, referencing the Elector's dignities as Arch-Chancellor of the Holy Roman Empire and Duke of Jülich, Cleves, and Berg, runs along the outer border.
