Obverse description Central field depicts a lit candle on a tall candlestick resting upon a draped table or altar, symbolizing the light of the Reformation. A hand emerging from a sleeve at upper right holds an open book above the candle, alluding to the Holy Scripture as the foundation of Lutheran doctrine. Radiant rays emanate from the candle flame. The circular Latin legend ECCLESIA NORICA IUBILANS (The Nuremberg Church Rejoicing) runs along the inner border, with the reeded outer rim framing the design.
