This coin is a product of the Kipper- und Wipperzeit — the "clipping and culling time" — a monetary catastrophe that swept the Holy Roman Empire between roughly 1619 and 1623. Municipal and territorial mints across Bohemia, Saxony, and beyond engaged in a race to the bottom, debasing silver coinage to exploit fixed exchange rates and extract seigniorage profit. The Prague mint was no exception. Ferdinand II, freshly victorious over the Bohemian estates at White Mountain in November 1620, needed revenue to finance his armies and reward allies.
The 75 Kreuzer denomination is a direct artifact of monetary chaos — an awkward fractional value that existed only because the accepted exchange rate between Kreuzer and Thaler had been inflated beyond any rational relationship to silver content.
