Obverse description The arms of Zürich displayed on an oval baroque cartouche shield — divided diagonally with horizontal lines in the upper half and a plain lower half — positioned at center left of the field. A rampant lion facing left stands at right, its forepaws resting upon the shield and holding an upward-pointed sword. Decorative foliate sprigs flank the shield on the left. The circumferential Latin legend reads MONETA REIPUBLICÆ TURICENSIS, with a terminal stop, running from lower left to lower right along the inner border of the reeded edge.
