| Obverse description | Central device depicts the city arms of Magdeburg: a fortified gateway with crenellated towers flanking a central portal, above which stands the figure of a maiden (the Magdeburger Jungfrau) facing forward, her arms raised, set against a walled battlemented rampart. The last two digits of the date, 71, are inscribed to either side of the central figure within the gate. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border, with the circular Latin legend reading MONETA. NOVA. MAGDEBVRGENSIS distributed around the periphery. |
