| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse features a prominent Jerusalem cross — a large central cross potent surrounded by four smaller plain crosslets in each canton — occupying the majority of the field, a device closely associated with the piety of Mary I and her Catholic devotions. The cross design is boldly struck in the hammered style, with the arms of the central cross reaching nearly to the inner circle. A circular Latin legend surrounds the design, punctuated by pellet stops, bearing a devotional inscription with the date 1558. The flat, unadorned field around the cross is typical of the sparse aesthetic of mid-period Scottish hammered silver. |
