The design is rendered in high relief with squared terminals, characteristic of the hammered coinage of the period. A beaded inner border frames the central device, with the devotional legend distributed around the coin's periphery. The date 1556 appears within the legend. The irregular flan edges are typical of mid-sixteenth-century Scottish hammered silver coinage. |
