Obverse description Bare-headed, draped and armored bust of Henry II facing right, depicted in Renaissance portrait style with naturalistic facial features and pauldron-clad shoulders. The royal effigy occupies the majority of the field, with fine detail visible in the hair and armor. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust, reading HENRICVS II DEI G FRANC REX, interrupted by a small cross or ornament at the base. The flan is irregular in shape, as characteristic of milled coinage of this period.
